Since the early days of Facebook, people have wondered what ways Facebook would monetize their userbase effectively. Initially, there were no ads on the site, as founder Mark Zuckerberg did not want to alienate new users as the site was growing. This effective strategy led to a clean interface being the standard of Facebook, even later when advertisements were added to the site.
Today, Facebook added a method for advertisers to increase user interaction with their ads. Users who watch or interact with media rich ads that are a part of this new program will be “paid” to do so. The payment comes in the form of Facebook Credits. These credits can be used for virtual goods, game currency, and will also be redeemable on Facebook Deals.
These ads are also more likely to be shared with friends due to the fact that people are more inclined to share entertainment. Therefore, once a user views these media ads, it may also lead to the advertiser getting further reach via the user’s network of friends.
