Twitter has been the source of breaking news and pictures on occasion. Some of these have been as trivial as celebrities sending a tweet with a picture of something that ends up on mainstream media. Others have been significant breaking news, such as the photo tweeted by a man aboard the plane that had to emergency land on the Hudson.
Today, a Twitpic captured the momentous last launch of the space shuttle, Endeavour. The photo was taken by Stefanie Gordon as the plane she was flying aboard passed over the launch site, as it descended to land in Palm Beach. She had a prime spot for snapping a quick photo with her iPhone. Gordon also managed to get a video clip of the launch.
In the hours following her tweet, Gordon quickly gained Twitter followers as news of the photo spread. Moments like these are becoming more common as citizen journalists are able to capture moments of significance and upload them immediately to Twitter or Facebook.
What was the most momentous tweet you have ever sent?
