Facebook Announces Skype Video and Group Chat

Today, Facebook held a live event to announce some major additions to the site. Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg, has been hinting for a few weeks that there were developments of new features in the pipeline. Speculation abounded and included theories ranging from a Facebook phone to accurate predictions of what was announced.

One of the new additions is Skype-powered video chat. This is a highly requested feature and has even been a common part of previous social networks. The logistics of scaling video chat to accommodate such a large user base could be part of why it took some time to implement.

Additionally, group chat has been added. Users can chat with multiple friends together in one window to discuss anything with a group of people. Both this and the video chat will be available to users starting today.
